Concert - Five Days that Changed the World

Sat, 10 May 2025

In Bob Chilcott’s Five Days That Changed The World, a series of significant historical events is celebrated through specially written text by award-winning poet Charles Bennett.  Reading Bach Choir undertook its own unique exploration of each of these five days with music spanning six centuries.

Each movement from Chilcott’s cantata was paired with one or more pieces of music reflecting upon the invention of moveable type, the abolition of slavery, the first powered flight, the discovery of penicillin, and the first man in space.  With composers from Melissa Dunphy to Eric Whitacre, Samuel Barber to Laura Mvula, the Choir made a journey through some of the most important events in the history of humanity.
