"American Connection"

5th June 201019th June 2010

Conductor: Matthew Hamilton

For Matthew's first concerts as Reading Bach Choir's Music Director, we present a programme that brings together the quintessentially American works of Copland ("In the Beginning") and Ives, and the less familiar work of young American composers Muhly, Foss and Del Tredici. The British composers have strong American connections; Britten lived in America for a number of years and was friends with both Tippett and Copland. The pieces by Anderson and Tippett are setting of American texts, and include the stunning spirituals from A Child of our Time.

We will be performing this concert twice, in Newbury and Reading, to extend our reach and give a new audience an opportunity to hear our work with this varied programme of music. The full programme includes:

Aaron CoplandIn the beginning
